The central social welfare board funds the programme. The programme is running from 17 July 2008 to continue .As per project background the need for providing short stays homes for women and girls in difficulties in increasingly. The changing pattern of life, the rapid urbanization and industrialization and the resulting migration from rural to urban areas, the spread of education among women and the resulting problems of adjustment for the first generation literates, the rising cost of living and the need for women members of the family to make an independent earning, creates problems which many of the women and girls do not find themselves adequately equipped to face. The break-up of social institutions like the joint family contributes considerably in creating problems of adjustment for women and young girls. Cases of marital conflict and emotional disturbance occur. They require help and guidance to regain confidence in themselves to meet the situation and to require skills to become self-reliant and to develop relationships with people that could help in the re-establishment of their status in society. For meeting the situation, institutional services where Counselling and guidance, medical and psychiatric check-up and treatment, facilities of development of skills and relationships are provide could prove useful. The effort has to be to help the women to rehabilitate themselves within a short period of time. An evaluative study was conducted recently to assess the impact of Institutional programmes on residents and discharged residents. 11. SWADHAR SHELTER HOME FOR WOMEN IN DISTRESS.

The programme funded by the Ministry of Women & child development, the programme is running from 10 March 2009 to continue. Although Indian family as a social institution is well known for the emotional and physical support that it provides to its extended members, many a time it fails to respond to the needs of women, specially for women in difficult circumstance like widows, destitute and deserted women, women ex-prisoners, victims of sexual abuse and crimes, including those trafficked and rescued from brothels, migrant or refugee women who have been rendered homeless due to natural calamities like flood, cyclone, earthquake, mentally challenged women, women victims of terrorist violence etc. Often the support of immediate or extended family are not available due to reasons ranging from economic instability of the family to provide such support to the breakdown of joint family system to the social bias against the marginalized women as also the attitude and value attached to such women. Sometimes society itself drives such women out of the system to lead lives of sub human existence. More often vulnerable women in distress end up as beggars or prostitutes for their own survival and at times for survivals and maintenance of their dependent children. Somewhere Nari Niketan covers only a fringe of the problems of such women. Project running for year 2009-10

12. WOMEN HELPLINE UNDER SWADHAR

Women are the most vulnerable sections in any social order. A large number of them face violence at the hands of the strangers, family members and others known to them. Such abuse may take place even at homes and work places. The violence may be in form of psychological abuse and actual physical abuse. Victims in most cases cannot take recourse to the criminal justice system for a variety of reasons including the fear of social stigma and lack of knowledge about the institutions that could come to their rescue. In order to provide necessary assistance to such victims, a round the clock ‘Women Helpline’ had been set up at the Swadhar shelter home Gurgaon. Its scope is further hereby expanded so that it helps women. From now onwards it shall be known as ‘WOMAN HELPLINE’- 0124-6527008 . Project running for year 2009-10
